It’s been a while since the release of PlayStation 4 back in November 2013. And now Sony’s Sony Interactive Entertainment is preparing to release PlayStation 5 next year, 2020. Do we know a PlayStation 5 release date? Let’s dig into facts.
PlayStation was first released in USA in September, 1995; PlayStation 2 in October, 2000; PlayStation 3 in November, 2006 and as mentioned before PlayStation 4 was released in November, 2013. When looking back it only seams logical that Sony should be releasing a new product very soon given that they release a new PlayStation every six years or so.
Most likely the announcement for PlayStation 5 release date will happen next year in 2020. IT may happen at E3 2020 in June or at Sony’s own event if they choose to skip the gaming expo jet again like they did last year. So, the PlayStation 5 release date should be in November, 2020.
PlayStation 4 sales went beyond the expected. Sony has announced its financial results for the fiscal year of 2018 that ended on March 31, 2019. The report shows that units sold in this quarter are 2.6 million and the grand total of units sold are 96.8 million units. And they have a new goal – between April 2019 and March 2020 to ship 16 million units. If Sony achieves this goal then they will reach a number of 112.8 million units sold.
Yasuda-san has released quarterly analysis in Sony’s business and what’s interesting is that it also included some forecasts of the next-generation PlayStation. It indicates that the new console will be focusing on eliminating the flaws of the PlayStation 4 and it’s about to be an impeccable piece of hardware. In this report Yasuda-san also expects the launch of PlayStation 5 to be in November 2020. The assumed price point is $499 and he predicts that it will sell 6 million units till March 31, 2021 – in its first fiscal year followed by 15 million units in the year after its release.
