Zelda: Breath of the Wild: Defeating Molduga

Molduga is one of the very powerful mini-bosses in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. There are four of these fish-like monsters called Molduga in the Gerudo Desert region of Hyrule. Molduga are the one of the top most dangerous predators of the desert. The monsters that are even more powerful than Malduga in these deserts are Molduking. If you manage to defeat all four Molduga then you will receive one of the key items – Medal of Honor: Molduga from Kilton the Monster Parts Merchant. Also, they drop Molduga Fins, Molduga Guts and metal Treasure Chests.

“This massive monster swims beneath the desert’s sand. It spends most of its time submerged, if it senses sound, it will breach the surface to feast on whatever it can grab. Running around carelessly can be dangerous if you suspect there may be one in the area.” Hyrule Compendium.

What do you need to defeat Molduga?

Calling Molduga very powerful really isn’t exaggerating. The mini-boss can kill you with one hit if you’re not prepared, so here’s some advice.

Getting some extra hearts going into this fight might be a smart idea. Cook some Hearty Durians, get yourself 20 extra hearts. Molduga hits though very damaging can be absorbed if you have some powerful armor, so get yourself the strongest armor you can get. Maybe it’s worth upgrading your armor, you can go akkala tower or to fairy fountains to do that. The moments where you will get to make some damage to Molduga will be very short, so make them count. Do a spinning attack with an impressive two-handed weapon, that should do some damage.

Defeating Molduga

Molduga can sense movements and vibrations through the ground, so they can sense you when you walk the ground and also, they are very fast. When you are around a Molduga, to avoid them hearing you, search rocks and climb on top of them, you are ready for your first attack phase.

Equip remote bombs and when you have a Molduga near you, throw the bombs on the ground. There will be a question mark appearing above Molduga’s head and the mini-boss will swim through sand and dive up, out of the sand and eat the bomb. Now, when you detonate the bomb it will immobilize the Molduga temporarily, this is your chance to do some damage. Run to the Molduga and try your most damaging attacks.

Have fun fighting!
